Silverdale is anchored by the Kitsap Mall, the largest shopping complex between Seattle and the Pacific Ocean. Here shoppers will find plenty of familiar restaurants, national retailers and services to meet any of their needs. Old Town Silverdale is a friendly community along the waterfront that is full of quaint shops, salons, cafes and galleries. The panoramic views are sure to take your breath away! The local place to hike is the lovely Clear Creek Trail which winds through the rest of Silverdale’s urban area.
Just north of Silverdale on Puget Sound is Keyport the home to the Naval Undersea Warfare Center. Some other attractions include the Naval Undersea Museum which features permanent exhibits on the ocean environment, undersea exploration and warfare. Be sure to visit Whiskey Creek Steakhouse which is a 60 year old tavern, that is now a family friendly, complete with a piano bar. Keyport has some of the best bird watching in the Northwest.
Also, north of Silverdale on the Hood Canal is the submarine base at Bangor. Naval Submarine Base Bangor’s mission is to support the Trident launched ballistic missile system; maintain and operate facilities for administration and personnel support which includes base security, berthing, messing, and recreational services; and provide logistics support to other facilities in the area.
