Indianola is within the boundaries of the Port Madison Indian Reservation; located between Kingston and Suquamish. It started as a summer/weekend community with the only access via steamboat. The Indianola dock was built when the Mosquito Fleet supplied the majority of transportation on Puget Sound. It stretches out several hundred feet into the sound and is a local landmark for watching the stars or any major celestial event. A small community center, is at the base of the dock includes a country store, post office and community center.
